What/Where to eat

Poland is a hard country for me to write about because we stayed with my ex's family the entire 8 days we were there. Honestly, the food in Poland is delicious. I would recommend going to a diner/restaurant that is a local family. Try all the typical polish foods - especially perogies. The cream soups are really good there as well. Something random I noticed is that chicken nuggets from McDonalds were the best i've ever had :P. Also try their deserts.

What to see/do

       1. Morskie Oko

- the most beautiful thing!!!!

- its a long long hike if you don't opt to take the horse and buggy
- take a bus from the bus station in Zakopane to get to the base and either take a 30 minute horse and buggy ride (20 euros) or hike for 2 hours
- worth the view 100%
- borders with Slovakia

            2. Castles

- same as any European country, the castles are always a must do
- I don't remember the names or locations of where I exactly went but it was worth it
- fairly cheap

             3. Beach

- we went to Sopot which is right on the water and its so pretty

- lots of local decorations

- its cool to compare the beach towns in Europe vs Canada
- honestly didn't do much and this is one of the things I did do so I had to add it

When we went

We went in May for over a week. Again, its hard for me to write about Poland because we were with family 90% of the time. We spent time in multiple different cities and small towns. The weather was perfect. Warm & sunny the entire time we were there. As for crowds I didn't really notice any crowds!

general tips/tricks

  • when most people go to Poland they go to Warsaw (the capital) but I didn't -  and honestly, I have no interest in going - i highly recommend going to the mountain area of Poland - its stunning

  • from the hotels I did stay in they're very nice with good prices

  • flights seemed to be cheaper then the train

  • Poland is perfect to see if you're going to Slovakia and Germany

  • you don't need a lot of time to see the country - 3 days would be good (1 in Zakopane, 1 in a city and 1 day used for travel)

  • the food is delicious but they do eat differently for breakfast

Final thoughts

Poland is a very unique country. It has a country sides with rolling green hills, mountain side with beautiful lakes dug deep into the mountains, cities with exceptional architecture, great northern city along the Baltic Sea, and castles throughout
Would I recommend going?
Absolutely
Would I go back?
Not unless it worked with my itinerary and I was already in Europe (I already saw what I needed to see)
Total Cost:
Around $100 - $200 per person

(please note: this was part of a 3 week, 5 country trip which cost roughly 1500-2000 per person - Poland we stayed with family and all food was provided by them as well)
